Language and Linguistic Competence
When questions arise as to the ability of a suspect, victim or witness to understand or communicate - or to have understood or communicated - competently in English - tests can be carried out to determine the level of competence. This applies not only to non-English speaking persons within an English speaking jurisdiction, but also to English speaking persons with impaired linguistic abilities.
The interviewing of children and vulnerable persons is another specialised field.
